Demountable Vrachtgebouw 17 reaches its highest point

2022.10.20

The new 61,000 m2 cargo building on the Kaagbaan at Schiphol reached its highest point in September. A number of specific design choices ensure a major sustainable impact on this scale. For example, it is the ambition that the building consists of at least 50% recycled materials and the roof construction is made of wood. The building can also be completely disassembled, for example by using moment-resistant, removable columns, this dry connection also provides an advantage in terms of assembly and construction speed compared to the poured 'wet' connection. The large span of the wooden roof beams provides large free floor areas and thus flexibility. Partly due to these sustainable aspects, the building will receive a BREEAM Excellent certificate.

The Vrachtgebouw is being built on behalf of Schiphol Commercial Real Estate for tenant dnata. It is one of the largest and most advanced logistics buildings in an airport in the world. It will consist of approximately 61,000 m2 of industrial space, of which 6,700 m2 of indoor office space, and will have a throughput capacity of 850,000 tons of freight on an annual basis. Contractor De Vries en Verburg Bouw started construction in January 2022. The delivery of the building to tenant dnata is according to the current schedule in the 3rd quarter of 2023.
